• De orde van psittaciformes, papegaaiachtigen, bevat 372 verschillende soorten. Ze zijn allemaal verschillend, maar door hun lichaamsbouw tegelijkertijd ook allemaal heel herkenbaar als papegaai. De kleinste soorten zijn rechts op de foto de spechtpapegaaien (micropsittaca) uit Nieuw Guinea, die 8-10 cm worden. De grootste papegaaiensoort is links op de foto de Hyacinth ara (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) uit centraal Zuid-Amerika, die met zijn 100 cm dus ruim tien keer langer kan worden dan de spechtpapegaaien!
